About the Community Advisory Council

The council is considered a vital part of the organisation enabling primary health care to build and hold its place as an equal system partner.

Council's purpose is to assist the Primary Health Tasmania Board (the Board) to ensure effective community engagement and that community perspective feature strongly in the governance of Primary Health Tasmania. The Community Advisory Council together with the Clinical Advisory Council are standing advisory bodies to the Board.

The council is a strong mechanism for community engagement for the whole organisation and tasked with seeking informed local perspectives. Members of the council will be expected to be strong advocates for the work of Primary Health Tasmania.

About the role

The term of appointment is 3 years. Members are supported to undertake the role with payment, orientation, and professional development if required.

The Community Advisory Council regularly meets and works with the Clinical Advisory Council. Both councils have a dedicated Board representative and an independent Chair.

At a minimum, both councils meet 4 times a year, and this is a mix of face to face meetings (often in Campbell Town) and online meetings. There may be a flow of reading material and discussion in-between meetings.
