The requirement for a tertiary qualification depends on the course which you wish to study. The Certificate in Palliative Care does not require an undergraduate degree to enrol. The Specialist Certificate in Palliative Care requires applicants to normally hold an approved health-related bachelor degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution and be working in the health sector or closely related field.

The assessment priority areas are a guide only in this open competitive process. Each application will be assessed on its merits, including how you address the short selection criteria and how it relates to your current or future work.

You will need to consider which of the assessment priority areas apply based on your individual scope of practice and the settings you may be working in e.g. working in/providing care in a rural health care setting, working in/providing care primary health care setting or supporting palliative patients.

Paramedics may come under either the private sector and/or non-government sector, depending on the organisation which you work for e.g. St Johns Ambulance which is non-government sector.

As this is an open competitive process we require individuals to complete an individual application in order for us to be able to assess eligibility and suitability to receive a grant.

Priority will be given to people working in private and non-government sectors, including: those working in rural healthcare settings, those working in primary health care settings, those supporting palliative patients independently in a community setting, nurses, registrars and palliative care staff.

In terms of which course is right for each individual please refer to our grant guidelines document specifically 'Choosing the right course' as well as Flinders University's Palliative Care Short Courses website where entry requirements are also outlined.
